HFoS Issue #4 NZ Launch!!!

Come get yer mits on a copy of the latest Head Full of Snakes. This one's a Special Issue – a ride report of sorts, focusing on the USA (mostly California) and a little bit of Mexico (Baja)... but there's still some of our HFoS classics in there, including the FLEXI DISC and the latest installment of BIKER WOLVES. There's also interviews with NYC NORTON (New Jersey) and WORKS ENGINEERING (Brooklyn), as well as the incredible BRIAN THE BOOTMAKER from LA.

Issue #4 Printed!

Ok so we're only three pages and the cover away from this sucker being PRINTED! Collating tomorrow and then delivering to the binders on Monday, so we WILL HAVE THEM READY for the launch at the Melbourne Art Book Fair. I'll put more info up here as soon as poss... in the meantime here's some pics of the printing process.

ISSUE #4 COMING SOON!!!

It's been a while but we can now say we will be officially launching issue #4 of Head Full of Snakes at the Melbourne Art Book Fair on May the 1st. Link the the launch here.

We're printing this issue with interns at the Ilam Press and hopefully getting started at the end of this week. As usual we're pushing it! Will post photos of production etc here as it's happening.

See you in Melbourne, or, if you're in NZ we will be having a launch in Christchurch too (probably on or around the 13th/14th of May).

Flexidiscs for issue #4 are here!!!

They're here! 1000 copies of the flexidisc for the next issue of Head Full of Snakes. Thanks so much to Tacoma band Girl Trouble for this one. Now we have the flexis in hand we will be making plans to produce this issue (given the wait for them last time, we thought we'd chill til we had these!). Thinking we'll be looking at a November launch at the moment, maybe as part of the Smash Palace Motorcycle Show? Dunno? I'll keep ya posted.

Role Club Boots: Brian Truong Interview

Yesterday I went to visit Brian Truong, a 23 year old boot-maker in LA, who Warren Prentice put me onto. I interviewed Brian for our next issue, and he totally blew me away with his skill and his attitude to life. I hope I can capture and relay some of his intangible presence in the transcribed interview for the mag!?

Brian hand makes (I'm pretty sure) the hands-down best 'engineers boots' the world has ever seen. Honestly you need to see these in real life, and see how they're made, they are quite amazing. NYC Norton Interview

Went and saw Kenny at NYC Norton yesterday. Gonna keep these photos up my sleeve for the upcoming issue. Kenny was bloody great. Very accommodating considering the amount of work he had on with various race bike being prepped. Max had actually gone and interviewed Kenny for us about 3 years ago, but, for various reasons (no finger pointing eh Max) an article never eventuated. I know Kenny's been interviewed and talked about elsewhere, but I'm pretty stoked to have a workshop of this calibre featured in lil' ol' HFoS!

Works Engineering Swapmeet, NYC

Max took me to this last Saturday – a 'swap meet' at Works Engineering in Wiliamsburg. It wasn't really a swapmeet? Not like what I'd think of as a swapmeet anyway. But the shop was pretty cool and there was a bunch of fine bikes around – inside and out. I left and then emailed them later, got in touch with with Erik, the owner, and just went and did an interview today. Watch out for the next issue to see/read about this place.

I decided after this to pretty much throw my camera away too. It's fucked! I'm sick of these shitty photos, and knowing I had to do some interviews now I've borrowed Max's SLR. Really regret not bringing a better camera on this trip!

Hesperia gets a new tank...

James has been a busy chap and the 'Hesperia' DR, my bike for this trip, now has it's new Ascerbis 5.3 gallon tank on (above). This will obviously get me a lot further between stops than the original 3.4 gallon one... as seen below:

I also reckon the bigger tank looks heaps better, and I'm looking forward to being able to see how much gas is in it simply by looking at it! I'd never heard of see-thru gas tanks until we started looking at these sorta bikes... I kinda dig them. Wonder if I could get one made up for the Triumph or the Norton? That'd be pretty fucking weird!?

James sent me some pics of his work... kinda wish I could be there doing this myself, but yeah we'll still have plenty to do and this'll save us time and get us on the road ASAP.

So that's the tank above, and below is the petcock plus an extra one we bought since for some reason they only come with a tap on one side???

Making sure the hole's the right size... glad James is doin' it by the book!

And, while the tank was off, James took it as an opportunity to ditch some unnecessary shit like the smog valve and the carbon canister (I remember my Thruxton had shit like this all over it when I got it!)...
